Welcome again to all our SHA officials, Current, Previous, and intending; to the 2011 season.
We trust you're off season and festive break was enjoyable.
As SHA is starting to ramp up for a successful 2011 season of hockey, we need to do the same for the required officiating.
We hope you will make yourself available and even get involved by returning some of your skill knowledge and experience back into officiating development, and the management of our game.
The SHA competition is due to start on the 19th March.
This is the 3rd year of the SHA Officiating redevelopment plan.
It has already provided several initiatives that have produced increased numbers of officials and provided development and improved quality of umpires and officials.
This year; 2011, the focus will be;
Increasing the junior development team
Premier Umpire team
Appointment process
Club Rookie Umpire Program
Use of technology
Involvement of many in managing officiating
Increase the Junior Umpire, Development team
.
Zeke Newman will continue to drive junior umpire development by dividing into north and south areas and utilising the senior umpires to assist coaching junior Umpires which also helps to fulfil their contribution component.
Premier Umpire team
We had a good introduction to the 'Premier Umpire Team' concept in 2010. With 14 in the team we had an average of 11 umpires attending formal briefings fortnightly, and the introduced training sessions with the
AFL
Umpires at Nth Sydney.
With the 2010 development group of umpires being expected to progress into the team we will be looking to identify more development umpires.
Development programs are planned with the introduction of technology to assist performance and development.
A modified Appointment process will be trialled, initially appointing the team for 11 weeks (1 Round) 3 week's rostered, with 1 week standby or development roles.
Premier Ump team will be asked to make them selves available for this roster and to manage any required personal changes through the premier team manager.
Appointment process
We will be looking to revise the appointment Process along with continued development of the automated availability and change notification protocol, which will reduce the workload of the appointment committee.
Club Rookie Umpire Program
After the success in 2010, Clubs will again be required to provide 4 non accredited club members (2 from premier grade, and 2 from Division 1) for umpire development and accreditation.
These rookie umpires are required to register, complete the Quiz, be observed on a game and be available for rostering to their suitable level of game.
Use of technology;
SHAOC will be utilising technology to assisit with Development of Officials and the promotion of Sydney Hockey
Radios will be introduced after training in their use;
Videoing will be more frequent and trailing of game commentary
2011 rules
The changes are minimal and are mainly ratifying the experimental rules from 2010.
They will be posted on the web site and forum for discussion.
There will be a pre season briefing 2 weeks before the season, which is compulsory for premier and division umpire to fulfil part of their development component for expense reimbursement.
Your involvement
We would like to invite and encourage you to get involved with the committee and various development teams.
We need people with different skills and an officiating passion to help build our team of officials for Sydney Hockey.
People will be required for the introduction of technology from video operation, assistance with radio operation and IT preparation of the data being recorded for development use and game promotion.
People are also required to assist planning and organising initiatives for the success of Officiating
If you can assist please contact the committee on
committee@shaofficials.com
I trust you will have an enjoyable 2011 season, give a hand developing other officials and achieve your goals in Officiating.
Cheers for Now
Sutho
